“That ICPA QLD requests the Queensland Department of Education (DOE) provide accessible paper-based alternatives to School of Distance Education (SDE) students for the delivery and assessment of the Health and Physical Education units currently delivered through a platform called “EduVenture.”
“EduVenture” delivery relies on online learning and requires students to upload videos of themselves for assessment purposes. This raises significant concerns for SDE families regarding privacy, cybersecurity, and online safety, particularly considering recent data breaches and increasing concerns surrounding the storage and sharing of children’s images online.
Many families actively discourage their children from recording and uploading videos to the internet for ethical, cultural, and personal safety reasons. In addition, not all families have reliable internet access capable of supporting consistent video uploads and online participation.
The current system does not provide an equitable alternative for all students and fails to adequately consider the unique circumstances of distance education families. Accessible, high-quality paper-based resources and alternative assessment methods must be made available to ensure all students can participate safely, appropriately, and equitably.
